By doing this project, such as using python to create, rotate and place blocks, and creating models on Maya and ZBrush, my scripting and modeling skills are much improved.

Process

Firstly, using python to create blocks and making them into a structure, and then the layer is made manually to put into a designed position. Then, random blocks at the central part are made by scripting, so they can be different position by running the code every time. After all, I made a hand model on ZBrush to put into the scene on Maya, in the meantime, a block is placed to be holding by the hand.

Precedent

The first visual concept was from a computer Mahjong game. In this game, each level contains numerous tiles arranged in different patterns and stacked to various heights. You remove them by matching tiles that are free from obstruction to the right or left. Clear them all, and you win.

My idea comes from a traditional Chinese game – Mahjong, and I was thinking of making a Mahjong scene. By using of tiles, I intend to make the contrast of messy and tidy into one space, just like Mahjong tiles on a table.

Mahjong (Chinese: 麻将; pinyin: má jiàng) is a game for players that originated in China.
By changing the scale of mahjong, I inted to make a city which is built by mahjong tiles.
